Further Information about the school

Kingdown School is an 11-18 School located in West Wiltshire. There are approximately 1,600 pupils on roll, including 250 in the sixth form. Nearly all the pupils come from the town of Warminster and the surrounding villages.

We provide a wide range of opportunities to help all our pupils achieve their best in every aspect of their personal, social, academic, sporting and moral development. The high academic achievement of our pupils is consistently above national averages at all levels in the school.

We are justifiably proud of the successes of all our pupils. We value and reward their progress and achievement and celebrate their success in many ways including school ties and achievement assemblies.

Kingdown School is a well disciplined and happy school. As they walk around the school, visitors are very impressed with the calm, friendly and orderly atmosphere in classrooms and around the school site. Relationships amongst pupils and between pupils and staff are excellent and a feeling of respect pervades the school.

Excellent teaching facilities

In addition to general classrooms, the school also has good specialist accommodation: science laboratories, technology and art rooms, drama and music rooms; there are several specialist computer rooms, an up-to-date library, and a specialist sixth form area.

PE facilities include extensive playing fields, two indoor halls, tennis and netball courts.

The local Leisure Centre allow us to make use of their facilities too and the school has access to the swimming pool and sports hall during the day.

Pastoral Support

We take a great deal of pride in the excellent level of pastoral support offered to the pupils and students at Kingdown.

By providing a disciplined and caring environment, the school aims to provide opportunities for all its pupils to achieve their potential. Pupils are encouraged to respect others and their environment. The school’s behaviour policy sets out clearly what is expected from the pupils; they are always encouraged to set themselves high standards

There is an active school council and each house has its own year council. Parents’ interest and involvement in the life of the school are warmly welcomed.

The town of Warminster

Warminster is one of England’s most important military centres and has earned fame too for its close proximity to one of the most splendid Tudor stately homes, Longleat House, owned by Britain’s most colourful aristocrat, Lord Bath.

The town has an attractive park with boating lake, and just down the road is Shearwater, long a favourite beauty spot with locals and tourists alike.

The attractions of Longleat are world famous, especially the safari park, but more recently the facilities of the Longleat Forest Centre Parcs Holiday Village have been attracting many new visitors to the area.

Warminster acts as a centre for many attractive villages, and in recent years the area has become a popular area with visitors who appreciate the unspoilt charm of this tranquil part of Wiltshire.
